2024 Nagra will submit two general licence applications – one for the deep geological repository and one for the encapsulation plant. For the planning of the underground facilities, we are looking for an Underground Construction Specialist (m/f/d).

Your key responsibilities will include:


  • Managing projects connected to the integral planning of the deep geological repository
  • Concretising and optimising the repository projects with a focus on the layout of the underground facilities (Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects (SIA) phases 31 – 33)
  • Documenting the results for each of the SIA phases
  • Managing external contractors and collaborating with them to prepare the basis and documentation required for the construction licence application
  • Planning and managing your projects
  • Developing the basis for internal decision-making
  • Communicating results to authorities and experts

Nagra, the National Cooperative for the Disposal of Radioactive Waste in Switzerland, is realising a project of the century: the planning, construction, operation and closure of a deep geological repository for the nation’s radioactive waste. With a sense of the project’s historical significance, Nagra’s staff members are planning far ahead – for the benefit of generations to come.

Your professional and personal qualifications include:


  • A technical or university degree in civil engineering or similar, preferably with expertise in underground construction
  • Several years of experience in planning and realising underground construction or tunnel construction projects
  • Experience and/or interest in digital integral planning, e.g. BIM and requirements engineering
  • (Specialist) project management experience in major projects advantageous
  • Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
  • Independent and responsible personality with high social competence
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills
  • Very good command of written and spoken English, German language skills advantageous

2024 Nagra will submit two general licence applications – one for the deep geological repository and one for the encapsulation plant. Planning of the associated facilities and their operation will then enter the optimisation phase, and a construction licence application will be prepared for the first realisation stage of the deep geological repository.
