Wasserstoffentwicklung durch Korrosion von Eisen und Stahl in anaeroben, alkalischen Medien im Hinblick auf ein SMA-Endlager

The production of hydrogen gas from the corrosion of iron is an important issue in low-/intermediate-level nuclear waste repositories, where large quantities of iron and steel accompany the waste. Most of the iron in these repositories is in a cementitious, anaerobic environment.

As input for the design of a waste repository, the amount of hydrogen evolution from corroding iron in alkaline, anaerobic media was determined. The measurements were carried out using a volumetric method, which allows very long measuring times up to 16000 h.
