In its press release, “Namensforum Tiefenlager Schweiz”, the forum tasked with naming Switzerland’s deep geological repository, stated that, within one month, it had received a total of 3,395 suggestions as to how to name the Swiss deep geological repository. From this plenitude of ideas, the forum’s jury chose five finalists based on different criteria.
Voting is underway
As the name should be broadly supported and is also a matter of taste, Switzerland is invited to vote for the name for its deep geological repository itself. Click here to vote. Voting is possible until 24th November 2025.
You can choose from these 5 names:
- ATLASuisse
- Peradina
- Soluterra
- Stadelnova
- Terradura
The name will bear the addition “Switzerland’s Deep Geological Repository”.
A wide range of suggestions
Switzerland is not just looking for a name, says Martin Künzi, moderator of Namensforum Tiefenlager Schweiz, “it is looking for a symbol that combines responsibility and the future”. The strong response showed that the topic “affects many members of the public”, Künzi continued.
Over the past few weeks, the jury reviewed all submissions. To qualify for the final selection, the suggestions had to meet several criteria such as conciseness or comprehensibility in all of Switzerland’s national languages.
