Thomas Ernst takes over as Chairman of EDRAM

At the spring meeting of the international association EDRAM in Idaho Falls, USA, Thomas Ernst, Chief Executive Officer of Nagra, was elected as the new Chairman for a period of two years.

The purpose of EDRAM (International Association for Environmentally Safe Disposal of Radioactive Materials) is to promote the exchange of knowledge, experience and information in the field of radioactive waste management among its members. Twelve waste management organisations from eleven countries (Belgium, Germany, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain and the USA) founded EDRAM in 1998. Two meetings are held every year to discuss the progress of work worldwide and the most recent developments in the different member countries.

What is common practice for the engineers and scientists involved in radioactive waste disposal – namely exchanging important work results – is thus being pursued at management level.

Thomas Ernst will preside over EDRAM for the next two years. „Through international exchange, we can learn a lot from one another and create real added value for our programmes. All the waste management organisations in the member countries benefit from this“, says Ernst.
