Conference on knowledge and information transfer across generations
How can knowledge and information relating to deep geological repositories be preserved and transferred to subsequent generations? What are the ethical, social, scientific and technical requirements that apply to such a transfer? What challenges do we face? This interdisciplinary topic has been the subject of investigation by the Nuclear Energy Agency of the OECD (OECD/NEA) since 2010 as part of the international “RK&M” project Preservation of Records, Knowledge and Memory of Radioactive Waste across Generations, in which Nagra is actively involved. To date, activities have included developing general “Guiding Principles” and compiling a glossary and a list of relevant literature. Two international workshops have also been held.
To conclude the first phase of the project, an international conference will be held in Verdun (France) from 15th to 17th September 2014, with the title “Constructing Memory”.
